Advanced Dungeons & Dragons was a brand name used for two editions of Dungeons & Dragons published between 1977 and 1999, distinguishing it from the classic (or basic) Dungeons & Dragons game line.
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons[]
The original Advanced Dungeons & Dragons hardcovers, now often referred to (incorrectly) as the "1st edition" of Dungeons & Dragons.
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition[]
Revised. There were two successive editions with this name.
Later developments[]
Dungeons & Dragons 3rd edition was so-named to connect it to both the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons line and the classic Dungeons & Dragons line.
Swords & Wizardry gave birth to the retroclone movement, as a recreation of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons.
