The audience is a group of people who witness a role-playing game and enjoy it as a piece of entertainment. For most role-playing games, the audience is synonymous with the group of players (including the GM) who are playing the game. However, for role-playing games that are published as actual plays, the audience will also include the people who watch or listen to the game without playing.
Because the players of a game are both members of the audience and creators of the entertainment, their relationship to the medium is different to an audience's relationship to other media such as movies or theatre.
The word audience is also sometimes used to refer to people in the role-playing games market who might be interested in or purchase a particular RPG product.
