Bleed is the phenomenon of a player feeling the emotions of their player character, which can sometimes be desirable (e.g. to aid immersion or when playing horror role-playing games) but can also be detrimental, especially when it occurs outside the game session. The term was coined by Emily Care Boss.
Playing to bleed[]
Playing to bleed means deliberately engaging in themes and situations to increase bleed. The phrase acquired notoriety in November of 2023 in relation to Vampire: The Masquerade's Blood-Stained Love.[1]
