A dinosaur is a prehistoric creature, related to reptiles and mammals, with a scaly, reptiloid appearance, although they were warm-blooded creatures with advanced skeletal structures. The surviving descendents of the dinosaurs are actually modern day avians... birds. In common use, the term dinosaur is also used, inaccurately, to describe other creatures such as synapsids, such as the dimetrodon, which are more closely related to mammals, or plesiosaurs, aquatic, reptiloid creatures.
