Fate Core System, or Fate: Core System is a 2013 rulebook for the Fate Core role-playing game. It is the first rulebook published for Fate Core, and contains the default version of that game.
The book was published after the successful Fate Core Kickstarter. Backers of the project received the book digitally (and possibly in hardback depending on their pledge level), and digital copies of the book have been available as pay what you want since its publication.[1]
Contents[]
The Fate Core System rulebook presents the default rules for Fate Core, with a specific set of dials. Most notably, this includes the use of skills from an 18-skill list as the primary statistic (other interpretations of Fate Core use different statistics or different skill lists).
The game is designed for groups to create their own settings, but the rules are explained through the use of an example setting called Hearts of Steel, a typical low-fantasy swords-and-sorcery setting in which the adventurers Landon, Cynere and Zird the Arcane are caught up in local problems as they travel town-to-town. Two other example settings are featured solely through the art: one features "supernatural cops in a China-colonized Hong Kong/America that never was", and the other features anthropomorphic animals in a high-tech future, including a cybernetic super-intelligent ape and their squirrel mechanic. The cover art features one character from each of these example settings.
