A medusa from Dungeons & Dragons 3rd edition.

Medusa is a fantasy creature originating in Greek mythology.

In Greek mythology, Medusa was the name of an individual gorgon, a group of sisters with serpents for hair whose gaze would petrify anyone who looked on them.

Dungeons & DragonsEdit

In Dungeons & Dragons, a medusa is a type of creature similar to the mythological gorgon, not an individual. (The term Gorgon is now used for a different, bull-like monster.) Medusas again have serpents for hair and a paralysing gaze.
