A wight is an undead creature, a twisted reflection of its form in life.
Wights in role-playing games[]
In Dungeons & Dragons, a wight is one of the corporeal undead.
In Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and games based on it, barrow-wights are powerful grave haunts.
In Torg Eternity, wights are powerful undead, often serving as leaders in Uthorian's army.
Etymology[]
Wight originally meant "a person," but usages such as barrow-wight and phrases that mentioned strange wights gradually gave the word a more sinister connotation. Tolkien's barrow-wights codified the use of the word in fantasy as a type of undead, which was then used by Dungeons & Dragons.
