A will o' wisp (also written will-o'-wisp, will o'wisp or will-o'-the-wisp) is a supernatural creature resembling a glowing light without any apparent source. Other names for such creatures include corpselights or marshlights.
In role-playing games[]
In Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder, they are chaotic evil creatures that are variously described as aberrations, fey or undead depending on edition. They lure characters into traps so they can feed on their life energy. In D&D, they are invisible when not glowing; in Pathfinder, some variants look like a skull at the center of the glow.
They appear as corpselights in Shadowrun and marshlights in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay.
